Close to the railway tracks, from Loreto to Nolo, passing through Viale Monza and all of Via Padova, from Rottole to Crescenzago. In three months, Premiata Ditta was led through the neighbourhoods of Milan’s Municipio 2 by the suggestions and emotional cues they gathered while talking to the most diverse people they met through a word-of-mouth network of affinities.
Starting from friends of the association Via Padova Viva to spontaneous exchanges with bystanders (perhaps while they were drawing), from the greengrocer to the historian, from the old lady to the student.
To create the frottages, they placed large sheets of paper on the gates, transferring traces of wood, locks or irons struck with large dark pencils onto the paper. The result of this action are drawings/impressions that also make us perceive the three-dimensionality of the gates.

The exhibition presents sixteen unseen works resulting from this work, together with a book in which the voices and stories are collected in a series of narratives associated with the drawings of the gates.

Biography

Premiata Ditta

Founded in 1984 by Anna Stuart Tovini and Vincenzo Chiarandà, Premiata Ditta has investigated questions of authorship and individuality, evoking the corporate logic of production and profit in order to subvert it. The artists have participated in Biennials, Quadrennials and international exhibitions. In 1995 they created UnDo.Net, a participatory and independent model of immaterial value creation that is still freely accessible as an online archive. In recent years, Premiata Ditta has organised Studi Festival (until 2017) and currently Walk-In Studio, an initiative that involves and coordinates dozens of authors in the creation of exhibitions and events within artists’ studios and in various urban spaces in Milan. To be mentioned are also the projects You are here (MAMbo Bologna, 2018), Odori (Biennolo, Milan 2019) and Profiles (2018-2019), the latter realised on the island of Graciosa, Portugal, and documented in a volume published in Italy by Meltemi. Profiles is now being developed on the banks of the Po river in collaboration with some communities living in the MAB Unesco Po Grande area.
In the autumn of 2021, the Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano hosted an exhibition in which Premiata Ditta presented the book and the frottages resulting from the work carried out from April to June 2021 in the neighbourhoods of Milan’s Municipio 3.
