KINGS presents KINGS ZINE #1 LIFE, first issue of the new self-made artist’s magazine by KINGS. Each issue of KINGSzine, printed in black and white plus a fluo pantone, is intended as an art edition, published in limitied edition, and enhanced with home made gadget and drawings, each one different from the others, to transform every copy in a unique piece. Coming with the release of the magazine is a group show: on show, original artworks and contributions featured in the zine, a new series of KINGS works, and a live performance by BLASTULA duo (Cristiano Calcagnile e Monica Demuru).

KINGS Zine #1 {LIFE}, by Guia Cortassa

Life. Everything is life. Where are we living? What are we living? How are we living? Questions about the chief systems, and answers on the pavements. Flowers, butterflies, asses, deads, tables and skyscrapers. Where there once was the grass, now there’s a town. Are you sure you realize anything passes before your eyes? KINGS ZINE #1 {LIFE} is the best eyedrops now available. It’s a journey among contemporary town planning possibilities and utopias, a trip in architecture and culture’s cloud cuckoo land, a frame of the metropolitan reality we daily face.

Sturm und drang: a young man discovers life and art through a journey, both spiritual and geographic. Psychogeography: studies on the precise effects of the geographic environment, subjected both consciously or not, acting directly on individuals’ affective behaviour. At Van Gogh’s time Situationism didn’t exits, but the sun, the trees and Nature did. And Pompei excavations did too – are we sure they still do now?

Six Memos For the Next Millennium: Lightness, Quickness, Exactitude, Visibilty, Multiplicity. Twentyfive years later, Italo Calvino’s lessons are more than ever urgent. KINGS ZINE #1 {LIFE} lets the lightness of the images talk, makes visible the multiplicity of contemporary reality, where the quickness of a click is enough to bring to the light all the things that life removes in a Freudian way,  in absolute coherence with KINGS poetics

There’s a city rising though its inhabitants are still, there’s people singing from a stage for human rights and all that our politicians ignore, in a pitch-black parliament; there’s someone resurrecting from a hospital bed, and someone dying in a warm house interior; there’s a still life screaming, alone, cut off, slipping in the silence of a thick and flourishing greenery; there’s the infinite sweetness of one of the toughest women in art, and the farewell of a pioneer leaving her heartly life to entrust her memory to the heavy presence of her sculptures; there’s who in art puts all the carnal presence of the artist, and who shows off what’s the real face of contemporary art VIPs, in this Society of Spectacle, where the Dolce Vita is freeing oneself from his fifteen minuts of celebrity. And, of course, there’s Andy too.
